What Is the Proteus Nano?

Today, Proton Therapy is becoming a reality for more patients. IBA recently introduced the Proteus Nano, a two-room Proton Therapy solution resulting in a smaller footprint and lower cost. The Proteus Nano utilizes IBA's innovative Vbeam technology, making Proton Therapy truly accessible today for medical professionals and their patients.

Patients

Many of today’s Proton Therapy centers have up to five treatment rooms, with another large area necessary to house the cyclotron — the large machine that accelerates protons to nearly the speed of light for clinical use.

Traditionally the accelerator and beam line are located on the same level and adjacent to the treatment delivery equipment, which requires a larger footprint. With the innovative Vbeam design, the cyclotron now is positioned on a lower level, beneath the two treatment rooms. The protons are accelerated and transported vertically up to the treatment level, and then directed horizontally into the treatment rooms. The Proteus Nano offers all the dependability, and flexibility of IBA’s market leading technology, plus all the advances we have made working with our current customers, in a smaller footprint and at a significantly lower cost.

With the Proteus Nano you can anticipate lower development and maintenance costs, with quicker installation and ramp-up time. These factors are critical when considering adding a proton capability and looking to save time and money.

The Proteus Nano is a significant step in IBA’s ongoing efforts to help you break down the barriers to protons that have existed in the past. We certainly believe that community cancer centers, in addition to larger academic institutions, will see this new configuration as a great opportunity make Proton Therapy a reality for their patients
